CityLife Church of The Christian and Missionary Alliance Church

Membership Policy

  1. Qualifications of Membership
  2. All prospective members of CityLife Church need to affirm the following Qualifications of Membership as stated in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Uniform Constitution of Accredited Churches.
  3. Confession of faith in Jesus Christ and evidence of regeneration.
  4. Belief in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; in the verbal inspiration of the Holy Scriptures as originally given; in the vicarious atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the eternal salvation of all who believe in Him and the eternal punishment of all who reject Him.
  5. Acceptance of the doctrines of the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King.
  6. Full sympathy with the mission and core values of The Christian and Missionary Alliance and cooperation by systematic support of its work.
  7. All prospective members of CityLife Church need to know that the CityLife Church Bylaws also states this about members:
  8. Active members actively attend worship services, support the church, and are faithfully fulfilling their membership qualifications.
  9. Responsibilities of Members
  10. CityLife’s Bylaws require that members “support the church.” CityLife defines this by building and communicating a culture where all members are expected to give of their “Time, Talents and Treasures” and Prayers to CityLife’s mission (Find Home, Encounter Jesus, Pursue Gospel Change Together).
  11. Time→ Regular presence in CityLife’s Missional Community, Sunday Worship Service, and outreach events. CityLife’s culture is not one meant to raise consumers but rather regular and active members. We expect our members to serve within our church and to join us as we serve Jersey City.
  12. Talents→ Regular presence also requires that a member of CityLife brings their whole being to the mission. All of the natural talents that a person has, all of the spiritual gifts that the Holy Spirit has bestowed on them and an openness to allow God to continue to use them in new ways. God has always uniquely blessed CityLife with talented people and so we invite those on mission with us to use the talents and stories that they have been given to reach Jersey City for Christ.
  13. Treasures→ Support of CityLife’s mission through financial giving so that CityLife can wisely and generously give to Jersey City.
  14. Prayer→ As a church, CityLife needs to rely on our community to be praying for our movement in Jersey City. “Prayer is the primary work of God’s people” (A.B. Simpson). CityLife will rely on building a culture that is soaked in Prayer.
  15. Members of CityLife are called to pursue an authentic and ever deepening Christian Life.
  16. CityLife members need to affirm their willingness to subscribe to the Christian and Missionary Alliance's Uniform Policy on Discipline, Restoration, and Appeal as part of their process of becoming a member.
  17. CityLife’s Commitments to all its Members
  18. CityLife’s leadership commits to…
  19. Pray and Intercede for all who are part of our community and on mission with us.
  20. Develop and Disciple our community towards a maturing faith in Jesus.
  21. Communicate clearly and effectively.
  22. Oversee and Administer all of CityLife’s finances with wisdom, integrity and transparency with our members and the Metropolitan District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance.
  23. Being reachable by our whole community.
  24. Living an authentic and ever-deepening Christian life.
  25. Maintain a safe community for people to work and explore faith in. Free of manipulation, objectification and abuse.
  26. Member Privileges
  27. Members are eligible to nominate and be nominated for elected roles (Governing Board members, Elders and Nominating Committee members) if they meet the other qualifications for the role.
  28. Members are eligible to vote at the annual church business meeting, and other church business meetings that are duly called.
