CityLife Church Family,

As many of you begin to hear the news from our nation’s leaders announcing that places of worship are now being classified as essential. We know that you may have questions about what that means for our church and returning to our in-person gatherings. I want to ensure you myself and the rest of our Oversight Team will continue to make decisions based on prayer, along with the direction of the Jersey City School Board, local and state officials. We wish we knew when this season is going to be over, but we are committed to the safe and wise manner of when that moment could be for our church body. We ask that all of you continue to remain at home as details continue to unfold. Each of us has a role in flattening the curve of this city that we love.

I am grateful to be a part of this community and consider myself truly blessed to be your Lead Pastor. Our call to help our neighbors in Jersey City: “Find Home, Encounter Jesus and Pursue Gospel Change Together” does not stop during this global pandemic. Let us continue to pursue God in this season and remain strong.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend and we’ll see you (online) this Sunday!

In Christ,

Pedro Reis, Lead Pastor

We remain devoted and passionate about finding Jesus in this difficult season. Join us as we move to a new online platform that we believe will enable us to better worship and follow up with our church and community. Jesus has not left Jersey City and so we continue to go after His Kingdom together

Starting this Sunday, May 17th, 2020 we will be changing our platform for streaming sermons from Facebook to Church Online and we can't wait to celebrate this occasion with all of you!

CityLife Church Family,

I pray that you are all doing well and feeling strong. Today, I wanted to take some time to update all of you on some of the decisions that the Oversight Team has made regarding our Sunday Gatherings, Missional Communities, and Special Events. Here is what you need to know about how we are pressing forward as a church.

Sunday Gatherings:

For the foreseeable future our Sunday Gatherings will be completely online. However, though we will not gather face-to-face we want to provide avenues for continued connection and conversation. Here is how Sunday mornings will look...

  • 10:30am: We will premier the week's sermon on the CityLife Facebook Page. You can all watch the word for the week and I encourage you to leave a comment, a reflection, an insight or prayer request. We love to hearing from you; so don't hesitate to interact with us.
  • 11:15am: We will hold Missional Community Zoom video calls so that we can continue to be active in one another's lives. These calls will allow us to speak to one another and pray. I think that we can all agree that this is not how we love to do church but I also know that finding creative ways to be in community with one another is vital for in this season. I can't wait for all of us to be together again but for now let's zoom on over to Zoom (obligatory cheesy pastor joke).

Missional Communities:

As a church we want to continue making wise and loving decisions on behalf of all our people. So, we have decided to make all of our Missional Community gatherings 100% online. We do not want anyone to feel any unspoken pressure to be somewhere that might cause harm. We also want to make sure that we are obedient to the recommendations of our local, state and federal government. Right now we have to practice patience and discipline so that when we are able to gather we can treat it like a huge party! Each MC leader will continue to be sending out weekly emails with all the details. If you are not on one of our MC email chains please go to our Missional Community webpage and fill out the form and you will get a quick response.

Office Hours and Connecting:

Many churches are struggling with the change of working remotely. Good news- CityLife always worked remotely outside of our normal location at PS 16! Please feel free to reach out to me with anything that you might need. My availability and accessibility has not changed in any way due to the Coronavirus. My office hours are Monday-Thursday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This pandemic has only strengthen the Staff Team's commitment to taking care of our church body. My direct church email is [email protected] and you can always email the church at [email protected] for general information.

Special Events

I sincerely hope that the leadership of this church has effectively communicated that we aren't going anywhere in this season. Though we cannot gather together in person we are still on mission to Find Home, Encounter Jesus, and Pursue Gospel Change Together! Nothing will ever stop us from being the body that God is calling us to be for one another and our city. I love our social media post this week, we are practicing Physical Distancing not Social Distancing.

So, out of this burning desire that we share to be in community and to pray together. I invite all of you to jump on a Zoom call with me starting next Monday, March 23. I have decided to set aside three hours out of the week to jump on a Zoom call to talk, converse and pray with our church during the following morning, afternoon and evening slots:

  • Monday @ 8:00 pm
  • Wednesday @ 12:00 pm
  • Friday @ 7:30 am

If you are also feeling a burden to talk and pray please jump on one of these calls. If you are in need of anything, jump on one of these calls. Lets learn how to pray as a church because if we can't learn this act in this season, we may never learn it. To access this Zoom call follow this permanent link: Please visit our COVID-19 webpageto keep up to date as we continue to communicate pertinent information regarding our church body.

We love you and remain committed to your growth and health. Lets continue to be the body that we are called to be.

Thank you CityLife fam!

March 13, 2020

Today we were informed by the Jersey City School Board that our church will not have access to our normal meeting space at PS 16 while Jersey City Schools take their time to do their due diligence on how to proceed with COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We've expected that this would happen at some point and our staff and Oversight Team have been making every effort to plan the best ways for our church to move forward in this season.

We will NOT meet at our usual location this Sunday. The Oversight Team has been speaking with our amazing MC Leaders and we will be offering two options for this Sunday, March 15, 2020.

1. Missional Community Gatherings

As a church we do not want to neglect meeting and sharing our lives so we want to meet in smaller gatherings instead of having us all come together. Instead of gathering a corporate church we will be setting up MC Gatherings for Sunday morning at 10:30 am. At these meetings we will worship together, watch a video sermon and discuss, and pray and talk about the needs in our church. We need to remain the spiritual body that we have called to be and to support one another through difficult times.

If you are are in an MC, your MC leaders will reach out with more details soon. If you are not in an MC, please fill out the form on our Missional Community Webpage,, and you will be contacted before Sunday morning gatherings begin.

2. Video Access for Home

We also feel called to care for those in our church who, for many legitimate reasons, might not feel safe in a gatherings at this time. If you feel this way, we release you from shame or guilt and we will continue to find ways of providing spiritual content and community during this time. This Sunday, March 15, we will provide the same video and discussion prompts that the MC Gatherings will use through our Facebook page @ We will continue to be using our Social Media Platforms and our Website to share videos and updates about our plans moving forward.

I'm fairly certain that for most of us, this week is best summarized as a week of uncertainty. Questions swirling around us about work, schools, daycares, what's appropriate and how cautious we need to be about our daily activities. Let me say that the leadership of our church has been working diligently and has poured much prayer into assessing how we should proceed as a solidified church body. On one end we wholeheartedly believe that God is calling His church to be strong and visible in this difficult season. To strengthen our faith and lead masses of new believers to Jesus who are beginning to ask really deep questions.

On the other hand, we also have a weighty call to shepherd and guide our church family in healthy and responsible ways. In this season how do we continue to be active in our faith while also cautious? How do we honor what the Bible says to us in Psalm 91 and Hebrews 10:25, while also holding up our social responsibility to our coworkers and our city? This will prove to be one of the main challenges for us -- individually and as a community -- in the upcoming months. Upholding faith and boldness while rejecting fear, anxiety, isolation.

No one in the city knows how long PS 16, our normal Sunday meeting place, will be closed. This could only be for this Sunday or it could be over many weeks. But I'm encouraged by the work and wisdom this leadership team is putting into building contingency plans as the situation continues to change on a daily basis. We are also in contact with our Christian Missionary Alliance leadership as well as our church partners in Jersey City.

We will continue to be in communication with you in regards to our future plans. We believe that God is still calling us to be deeply committed to corporate worship and to the work of the church in proclaiming the gospel to Jersey City. In times of uncertainty the church has an opportunity to be a constant light to those who believe and those who do not yet know Jesus through our commitment and service to each other, and through the way we each take our fears to Christ.

The CityLife staff and Oversight Team loves you and is praying for you. We are still passionate about living out our mission. We will...Find Home, Encounter Jesus, Pursue Gospel Change Together even through there is so much uncertainty around us.

In Christ,

Pedro Reis, Acting Lead Pastor
